Competition Classes and Rally

Our competition classes are taught in a drop-in format, and are paid for on a weekly basis.  Obedience requires no pre-registration. For Rally, please email before Wednesday each week to sign up, first-come-first-served to limit class size.

Drop-in classes are for those dog/handler teams who are working on more advanced level work, such as toward the Canine Good Citizen Award or in preparation for competition. It's also a great opportunity to train your dog in a distracting environment, get feedback from your peers and our great trainers, and get tips on how to teach your dog new skills or refine old ones! These classes are held on a weekly basis, and are a great opportunity for you and your dog to improve your skills!
If you are new to NEDTC, please take a peek at our Class Rules.

Our Novice, Open and Utility obedience classes are taught by Linda Holway
Our Rally class is taught by Nancy Thompson

Cost: $15 w/membership (6 for $75 with class card), $20 non-member. Additional classes for the evening are an additional $5.00 per dog.

Course descriptions

Novice Drop-In
Refine your basic skills, learn about ring procedure, rules, and work on your partnership with your canine companion. Ability to work with your dog at a Step 3 level or above suggested. Novice exercises include “Figure-Eights,” Stand for Exam, long Sits and Downs, Distance Recalls, Finishes and Heeling. Handlers are encouraged to take part in Rally, Introduction to Advanced Obedience and all appropriate classes during the evening. This is a drop-in class; advance registration is not necessary.

Utility / Open Drop-In
Exercises are broken down into components making dog and handler successful. While no titles are required, handlers must have good off-leash control of their dogs. Handlers are welcome to stay and take part in all classes during the evening.  Long sits and downs will be held in conjunction with the Novice class at 7:15, moving into dumbell work, jumping, and flatwork after.

Intro to Obedience / Step 5
Step 5 is a fun introduction to the skills you need for competition obedience!  We will use fun games and clicker training to work on heeling, retreives, jumping, and other exercises seen in the competition ring, and help you get started!

Rally is an obedience obstacle course for you and your dog! Various Rally maneuvers and mini-courses are covered, the course configuration will change as handlers require new or more advanced exercises. This is a great place for Advanced Beginners to expand their skills.
